Perkins/California Career Technical Education Act

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006 (Perkins IV; P.L. 109-270) supports the development of academic and career and technical skills among secondary education students and post-secondary education students who elect to enroll in career and technical education (CTE) programs, sometimes referred to as vocational education programs.

Perkins CTE Transitions for K12 Articulation

In 2011-2012, Tech Prep was omitted from the federal budget as a part of Perkins IV. The Chancellor’s Office chose to invoke a 10% reserve from Title 1C funding to preserve Tech Prep’s primary mission to facilitate the transition of CTE students from secondary to post-secondary to high skill, high wage, and high demand occupations by funding statewide CTE Transitions consortia. This annual CTE Transitions funding is expected to continue until the current Carl D. Perkins Act of 2006 is reauthorized.
